Reviews: God (1)
“God”
(Paperback)
An incisive, clear and entertaining book, with a vein of humour throughout that makes it even more pleasing. It explains complicate religious issues with candour and straightforwardness, stating problems relating to God's existence and offering plausible answers. In fact, one problem is not that God's existence has become untenable, but rather that God has become boring. This problem stems in large part from taking traditional images of God too literally. God is seen as a supernatural person who can do absolutely anything. The irony here is that this rather grand vision of God has led to God's seeming irrelevance. The supernatural God who can do absolutely anything seems to be doing absolutely nothing, at least, nothing that makes an observable difference in our world...Ward tackles with this and presents a must read as a serious alternative to all the appalling pseudo-philosophical/pseudo-scientific idiocies which have followed the publication of Dawkins' "'The God Delusion'.
