A thoroughly refreshing approach with challenging theology. I enjoyed the book immensely until the wholly unnecessary mention of British and continental European colonialism (as if the Americans didn't colonise 37 of the 50 states after 1776, Guam, Philippines, US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico etc. and indeed much of the world through economic warfare, in the process slaughtering the native Americans, people they considered "uncivilised"). Then ruining the English language and much of their inheritance from Enlightenment Europe, going on to contribute next to nothing to the modern world. Interesting that the author hails from Portland, Oregon, the only place in the world where I've sensed a spiritual 'unease'. Were the author to have a more balanced worldview and an appreciation for his home country's (and home city's) many shortcomings, the book would have been even better!
