Reviews: Gigantic (7)
“A beautiful story about how even the smallest amongst can be powerful and talented!”
(Hardback)
by The Kids Books Curator
A beautifully packaged rhyming story where celebrating differences and each other's talents fills the reader's heart. The sumptuous illustrations by this celebrated creator bring this underwater adventure to life. Gigantic might be the smallest whale in the pod, but he's got potential and his big brutish brother Titus can't see it at first. Alone and rejected, Gigantic finds a new friend - Myrtle the turtle, and together they have so much fun! Titus spies this happy scene and can't believe how great Gigantic is at spins and more. Trying to outsmart him, he is beached (a sad reminder of some horrific scenes over this Summer)!! A small army comes to the rescue... and Titus learns his lesson. All the while the Greenpeace Rainbow Warrior battles the storms and the waves to patrol above.
“Highly engaging”

Rob Biddulph is brilliant and back at it again with a rhyming book that's easy to love. The rhythm is great for reading aloud, and the illustrations are unique and fun. There are different levels of vocab to encourage and challenge younger readers, and the overall message is clear, simple, and positive. The way the brothers interact is also very realistic and we had a little giggle about it.

Gigantic is another brilliantly illustrated book with a heartwarming story of two brothers accepting differences
“A vibrant tale”
(Hardback)
by Lizzie Ryan
A wonderful, rhyme packed , vibrant and dazzling tale. Gigantic is a whale but unlike his name suggests he is in fact quite small. His older brother Titus teases him and with that comes problems for the whales. This is a charming. And sweet story about the importance of kindness and the only size that matters is the one if your heart. As expected from the imagination of Biddulph, we have a book here which is PACKED with humour, characterisation, colours… it is a true delight to read The rhyme and flow of the story make this a great one to read aloud and one everyone can enjoy Love love LOVE this
“Perfect for bickering Siblings”

As with all Rob Biddulph's picture books, 'Gigantic' is a huge hit in our house and at my story time in the shop. Biddulph has a knack for making a story rhyme without making it difficult to understand or poor grammar. They are always fun to read and easy to follow along, and even though there is a real message in this book, it's not preachy. This book is a specifically wonderful one, as it is set in the ocean (bonus points from me) and deals with two brothers (bonus points from my kids). Gigantic's bigger brother is quite the bully at the beginning of the book and this story has opened up conversations about teasing and bickering in our house. It's also a great reminder that being small (or by extension different to the others) doesn't mean that one is less than! I think I haven't mentioned how beautiful the illustrations are, have I? It's probably my favourite Rob Biddulph book ofd them all! I probably would have bough this book , but I was lucky enough to snatch up a review copy. Yay!
