This books is fantastic. The story follows a women who has crash landed on earth years after its demise, and the inhabitants are descended from those who didn't want to leave for Space life. These people have a fear of people who live their lives in space. What Curtis does really well here, is she takes the journey of this women and shows it to the reader through the eyes of the characters who meet her along the way. These characters feel tangible, fleshed out and real, and it's fascinating to see one person through the eyes of many. The conclusion to the story is so well done, you are kept guessing the whole way through as to who the protagonist is searching for and what has come of them. For a debut, Curtis has really made something fantastic here and it's perfect for fans of Becky Chambers. Thank you to Hachette for the advanced reading copy.

The book follows a curios character on an enjoyable and intriguing quest. It is written very different from other books like this I've read and I love it for it. Is great for anyone who likes post-apocalyptic or science fiction tales. This is a nice break from the fast paced non-stop action sci-fi films that dominate cinema at the moment. Plus the subtle accepting representation is exceedingly heart warming.

One of the most impressive things about Frontier for me is how well it has blended the genres of Sci-Fi and Western. The story follows an unnamed traveller who has crash-landed on an earth that has devolved back to a pre-technology era, where outsiders and technical advances are shunned, often violently. The wild west theme however doesn't stop at the setting - I found the storytelling structure to be quite similar as well. While trying to locate a lost loved one, the anonymous protagonist passes through many small earth communities, and is very often viewed from the POV of a town or village local. Each chapter they are assigned a different 'name' by the locals, and watching them travel across the land feels quite reminiscent of the cinematography of classic westerns (the opening scene of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid comes to mind in particular). Grace Curtis has crafted a Sci-Fi adventure story that achieves a wholesome feel in a bitter and cruel world, which I see as a remarkable achievement!

I absolutely adore this novel! We meet the Stranger through a wide range of characters - each chapter is devoted to a different character's experience and many of them could almost be short stories in their own right, but they combine to tell the plot of the novel as a whole, and we're able to see the journey the 'Stranger' goes on. It's set in a world in which Earth is half-abandoned, ruined by the climate crisis, but the story at the heart of this book is ultimately very tender and heart-warming, and this has a truly original, unique feel. This would be perfect for fans of Becky Chambers but honestly I think it would be perfect for everyone - it's fantastic!
