“What A Sweet Little Bird”
(Paperback)
by Nicole @hemelwstones
Sami plays on his own a lot since his family moved here. Everything seems unfriendly. That is until a little bird crashes into him and asks for help. Seeing things and people in a different way whilst helping the bird find it's friends Sami finds people aren't always so grumpy or unfriendly. A very colourful, beautifully illustrated tale of sometimes needing a little push to get to know those around us a little better and finding someone to play with.
“Stunning story about a refugee’s search for friendship”
(Paperback)
by Kate Poels
Moving to a new house can be difficult. Moving to a new country can be very unnerving indeed. Sami is finding his new home a lonely and unfamiliar place. He doesn’t know anyone and the language is not his native tongue. Little Bird also seems to be feeling a bit lost and together, the two try to help each other find a flock of new friends. This is a gently heartwarming story of change, friendship and struggling to find your way in a new community. Many children will find comfort in hearing Sami’s story, laced with the emotions of being a stranger and learning to find new friendships. I’m sure there are plenty who have lived in the same house all their lives but can also see themselves echoed in Sami’s state of loneliness and uncertainty. If only there were enough Little Birds to go round! As well as offering comfort and reassurance to some, this book is also a wonderful tool for encouraging empathy. Children are invited to look at the world through the eyes of Sami, a young refugee, and perhaps think about the way they choose to treat children from other cultures or countries who come into their own lives.
“Feel good read”
(Paperback)
by Vanessa at Doncaster
A stunning story illustrating the common issue of children finding new friends. I love the little bird's part in the story and can't wait to snuggle down to read this with my little boy!
