Reviews: Flowers For Algernon (16)
“A truly powerful story that challenges what we, as a society, value in humanity.”
(Paperback)
A truly powerful story that challenges what we, as a society, value in humanity. Through Charlie's journey, Keyes masterfully uncovers the problematic nature of valuing intelligence and success over human affection and happiness. By the end of the novel, the reader achieves a deep and poignant understanding of why these values should be replaced by empathy and compassion towards all members of society, regardless of how their abilities align with so-called "social ideals."
“An Amazing Read!”
(Paperback)
Truly a masterpiece of a book . Short but sweet and so incredibly written! Honestly I recommend this to anyone who’s into sci-fi stuff or is wanting to get back into reading. It was the first book that actually got me back to reading after never finding anything interesting on the shelves. Can’t wait to find more of these gems!
“A book everyone should read”
(Paperback)
I have no idea why it took me so long to pick Flowers for Algernon up. Lots of people have recommended it to me over the years knowing I love stories that cause great emotional damage
“Amazing”
(Paperback)
I loved this book and did even realise that what I was reading was considered a classic! This really does open your mind up to the idea that the “grass is always greener on the other side”. I would highly recommend this book, it’s a great read and the way it’s written makes it feel so much more personal!
“Utterly Compelling and Heartbreaking”
(Paperback)
This book was truly one of the most emotional books I have ever read. Despite me being a fairly young teenager I read this in just a few hours and can honestly say that I have never read a more heart-breaking yet riveting book in my life. Everybody should read this at some point in their life as it is completely amazing and evoked astoundingly strong emotions in me. Truly wonderful!
