Reviews: Finding Bear (24)
“A great sequel”
(Hardback)
The Last Bear by Hannah Gold was a wonderful book telling the story of April Wood rescuing a trapped and starving polar bear - despite numerous obstacles. April is back in this sequel and is even more headstrong and determined to fight for the plight of polar battles and battle against climate change. News reaches April and her father that a polar bear has been shot near the town of Svalbard. April is convinced it’s “ Bear” and with her father return to Norway with the aim of helping Bear. April’s determination to find Bear is palpable and at times she probably crosses the line of disregarding advice but her courage and commitment to save Bear takes her on a series of adventures - each showing the impact on global warming on the plight of polar bears. April is reunited with characters from the previous book. This is a rip- roaring tale ( no pun intended as Bear certainly roars a lot) and will be an exciting read for the 8 plus group. Plenty of nail- biting moments - a great sequel .
“Yet another beautiful story from Hannah Gold!”
(Paperback)
A year after returning from her arctic adventure, April Wood is missing her new friend Bear, who she can hear calling to her all the way from Norway.
When she hears the news that a polar bear has been shot & injured in Svalbard, April has a horrible feeling that Bear needs her help.
After convincing her dad to take her back to the Arctic, April sets off, with new some new friends, on a husky-led journey to find Bear. But what she finds is beyond her wildest dreams...
It was so lovely to be reunited with April & Bear once again. This was yet another beautiful story from Hannah Gold, with stunning illustrations by Levi Pinfold - what a dream team!
I adored the new characters and it was such a joy to be reunited with the rest of the gang. I can't wait to read the next book in the Bear world... 'The Lone Husky'.

“Bear's story continues with a beautiful message about the power of love”
(Hardback)
I was delighted to revisit April and Bear after first meeting them in 2021's The Last Bear. April is concerned that Bear is in trouble, so she returns to the Arctic to try to find him and help him. What follows is an Arctic adventure ideal for children from ages 9-12, but also a delight for more seasoned readers like (ahem) myself.
I want to thank Harper Collins for providing a proof copy of this book for review. I look forward to getting my hands on the full edition, with breathtaking illustrations by Levi Pinfold.
