Reviews: Facing Up (2)
“Thoroughly enjoyable”
(Paperback)
I really enjoyed this account of Bear's epic journey to Everest's summit. It's well written, honest, searing, funny and engaging. You really get a sense of how much it meant to him after breaking his back in a parachuting accident and setting his sights on this climb as a way of healing his mind as well as overcoming the physical challenge. You're right there with him through the disappointments and moments of euphoria, through the pain and slog of it all. Although it makes you want to give it a go! But if Everest is out of reach - this account will take you there.
“Too much religion”
(Paperback)
What a pity my read was ruined by repeated mentions of Jesus and other medieval concepts. Come into the 21st century Bear. Some good descriptios of mountain climbing but let´s face it....God has nothing do do with it. Will never buy another book by him due to this backward attitude !!
