Twilight with a twist couldnt put it down

I had a hard time getting into this book in the beginning but it picks up if you perservere, i think it's quite cleverly done and worth the read. Definately will be reading stargazer.

The continuously twisting plot of Evernight, will make you never want to put it down, and when you’re finished, it will leaving you gagging for the next instalment. If you think Evernight is just a run of the mill vampire story; girl goes to school meets vampire boy, gets in trouble, and then is saved by vampire, you would be deeply mistaken. This tale has one of the hugest twists in plot that I have ever experienced in a book; it literally knocks you off your feet - you are that unprepared for it. The book takes every vampire stereotype and flips it around, taking a reader on a dark nights tale, which manages to incorporate romance, danger and mystery. The characters of the story are developed in depth, creating the feeling that you know everything about a characters life, straight from the beginning. However, every character is more complex, than what is portrayed on the surface; harbouring a dark secret. All these secrets are slowly revealed, as the plot unravels, but until they appear you never see them coming. The suspense this story builds is enough to make you want to read it again and again. I personally cannot wait to see, whether Claudia Gray’s follow on novel Stargazer lives up to the standards that Evernight has led me to expect from her work. If it is written in a mysterious plot twisting manner, just like Evernight, I am sure it will be another hit with me and other fantasy lovers.

When I saw Evernight on the library shelf I literarally pounced on it - the blurb was so promising! Maybe I'm just a sucker for mysterious, loner maybe-bad-boy type love interests but put that in a creepy boarding school setting that just reeks mystery? I'm all in! That was me, before I finished the book. Frankly, I'm slightly disappointed about Evernight. I thought the romance, which I would have wanted to gush about, was too fast, too intense. Bianca seemed to have fallen in love at first sight with Lucas - although sometimes this work, it just didn't work this time. Althuogh I must say that the twists really surprised me. I couldn't have guessed - it has a very good role reversal and it ties elements mentioned on previous occassions to the twists and turns towards the end of the novel, the Oh-my-God-so-that's-why moment that I always look forward to in a mystery novel. What I didn't like was how the true nature of a character was unveiled in the middle of the book and then it carries on as if it was blatantly obvious. It wasn't, and it's not very enlightening. It confused me. I would have wanted more humour in this novel, but it was an okay read anyhow. I'm going to read the sequel and the forthcoming Hourglass, but it's not in my priority lists. Three stars.
