Reviews: Dune (34)
“An OG Sci-fi great”
(Paperback)
by Hannah Falvey-Browne
Duke Atreides and his family are in charge of overseeing the rule of Arrakis - a hostile planet where the drug melange (aka spice) is sourced. Given the multiple enhancing qualities and other uses of the drug, it is highly sought after across the universe - something that House Atreides is all too aware of... Cue an onslaught of opportunistic traitors, political games and a general consensus of not knowing who to trust! This book will keep you guessing and doubting a number of characters motives the whole way through. So this this was partly driven by me wanting to read the book before the film comes out in October, but after numerous threats of saying I'd do it, I've finally read Dune.

“Revolutionary”

This was my first Sci Fi and was a bit nervous diving into such a huge book as this! But omg I absolutely loved this book I didn’t want it to end and was completely lost when I finished it. What an amazing novel and I recommend it to anyone who wants to read Sci Fi! I fell in love with Paul and Chani’s pure love. I fell in love with Paul’s relationship with Duncan and I felt Paul’s suspicion of his own mother Lady Jessica! The mantra at the beginning of the book will stay with me for the rest of my life! ‘I must not fear, fear is the mind killer!’

“A sci-fi classic”

Dune by Frank Herbert is an epic masterpiece of science fiction that has withstood the test of time. The story follows Paul Atreides, heir to the desert planet Arrakis and its most valuable asset, Spice. He finds himself thrust into a power struggle between noble houses and ultimately uncovers a conspiracy to control the entire universe. The characters are complex and nuanced, and the world building is stunning. The themes of ecology, religion, politics, and power are explored in depth without ever feeling heavy-handed. This book is a must-read for anyone who loves science fiction
