Reviewing memoirs can be so tricky for obvious reasons. But this was just full of life, honesty, humour, humility—I could go on. Julia will tell the most ridiculously crazy story and then follow it up with 'And then it was my eleventh birthday.' It's insane. A tough read but never boring.

Julia has wrote this from a place of honesty, love, loss and hope when writing about her life experiences. I was unable to put this down! Every page made me want to keep reading more and more.

“Two sides to it”
(Hardback)
by Robert Steen
The book is a story of addiction (and it clearly says so ... albeit towards the end). It keeps you hanging on as you crave for the hope everything could turn to the better ... but it doesn't. As with all addiction, the plot moves in circles, from destitution to some sort of grip on life to the next return to drug oblivion, to the next sobering up after the death of a close friend, to the next cycle and on and on. Add to this an extremely uncomfortable relationship to violence, both on the receiving and giving end. I intitially liked the story but increasingly got both bored and annoyed being faced with the dumbness of many of the incidents and the hopelessness of the overall situation. Add to this an increasingly 'sketchy' style. If this was supposed to be an autobiography, it left out a lot of important facts, i.e. from the book you would practically (up to the last pages) not have picked up the success Fox had as a fashion icon. This was hardly mentioned and if you had not googled the person, you would not have captured the whole story from the book. Wallowing in the destitution of drug addiction was not quite what I had expected and t.b.h. towards the end it did put me off by quite a bit. If you want a depressing story on drug addiction, read Burroughs or the like.
