“Terrific read”

by Maggie Macdonald
Anna is a renowned cardiac surgeon. Her work is a very important part of her life, almost as important as her young son Zack. As she goes through a nasty divorce she tries her best to get by. The hospital tells her that a patient she is due to operate is MP Ahmed Shabir- expected to be next Prime Minister. It is top secret & the ward will be closed off. When Anna gets home her house is crawling with workmen. Her home is being fitted with surveillance devices & her son is missing. Unless Ahmed Shabir dies on her table she will never see her son again. Margot is a theatre nurse. Due to her family & poor decisions she is forced to resort to theft to try & make ends meet. DI Rachel Conaty investigates the death of Anna's neighbour Paula. Paula was Anna's neighbour & looked after Zack after school. Due to the loss of her son, she can't accept Anna's explanation of where Zack is- even if it threatens her career. These three women narrate this totally engaging book. It kept me awake way into the night.
“Unputdownable! A chilling and tense thriller!”

There has been a lot of hype about this book and often this worries me as I wonder if it will then live up to my expectations when I read it. I am very pleased to say this one did! This is a fast-paced, action-packed, nail-biting read that had me on the edge of my seat throughout! Anna is juggling being a single mum whilst holding down a career, this is hard for most, but Anna is a heart surgeon, so it isn’t like she works an average 9-5 kind of job. Thank goodness she has a lovely neighbour, Paula, who takes care of her son Zack for her when she’s working. After a stressful shift at the hospital, she heads home, what greets her when she gets there is not at all what she was expecting! Who are these men in her house and where are Zack and Paula? Anna is due to operate on a very high-profile person – MP Ahmed Shabir. It has all been kept top secret, but there must have been a leak, as these men in Anna’s home have come to give her an ultimatum. She is to kill Ahmed Shabir on the operating table, or she will never see her son alive again! What a dilemma Anna finds herself in, as a surgeon she has taken the Hippocratic Oath to abstain from all intentional wrong-doing and harm, but she can’t let her son die! We follow her on her quest to save her son and we soon realise that murdering an innocent man is the easy bit, it’s getting away with it and the challenges she faces after that are the real hard tasks. This is an incredibly well-written book that played out in my mind like a movie. With unexpected twists and turns, I thoroughly enjoyed the roller coaster ride this story took me on. I loved both Anna and Margot who were very well-developed characters with personality traits reflective of their backstories, especially Margot. There was never a dull moment in this book and the jam-packed storyline held my attention from start to finish. So, what would you do in Anna’s situation? Murder someone or never see your child again? As a mother myself the answer is a no brainer. Thank heaves this is just fiction! So, if you’re looking for a book that will raise your heart rate, have you clenching your jaw and make you hold your breath for long periods of time then this is the book for you! Just don’t do yourself any harm!

Wow this was an amazing book. I was hooked from the very start. This was an excellent fast paced novel that literally had me on the edge of my seat very early on. It was a fantastic roller coaster ride packed full of unexpected twists and turns. I couldn't put it down the atmosphere and tension was electric. I read a lot of thrillers but adding the medical element was pure genius and put it in a class above the rest. The author did a tremendous job of writing this book. I listened to the audiobook and just loved the production of it. The narrators were fantastic, in fact they were a perfect fit. They just added to the intensity of the book. I really can't recommend this book enough it was amazing. The characters and story line were amazing causing me to really connect with this book. This is the perfect medical thriller book and I just can't wait to read more from this epic author. Only the highest of praise goes out to the author and publishing team for producing such a thrilling story line filled with emotions. I am positive that every thriller fan is going to love it just as much as I did. This will be the next big seller.
“Fast paced, thrilling and hugely entertaining….”

by A Mother’s Musings
I’ve enjoyed Jack Jordan’s books in the past, so I was looking forward to diving into his latest novel “Do No Harm”, especially after reading some excellent early reviews. The premise of this story has a very interesting and thought-provoking moral dilemma, which for book clubs will make for a highly engaging debate, with no right or wrong answer. As a mother, I have an idea which way I’d swing but I’m not a trained surgeon sworn on the Hippocratic oath, so it's difficult to fully contemplate. There was an impulse control disorder spoken of, which I have never heard of at all and was quite an eye-opener for me that made me cringe at times but suited the character perfectly and added to their persona. I enjoyed how the chapters were alternately written from the points of view of the main protagonists; Anna, Margot and DS Conaty, as they each faced their demons and dilemmas with their involvements in the plot. Reading how each one imagined the other to be thinking was quite interesting and allowed the scene to play out more clearly. All of the characters are troubled and flawed, which made them very unlikeable but I think that was the aim as it made their decisions, whether right or wrong, more understanding. The constant suspense, tension and action throughout made this an unputdownable thriller and hugely entertaining. Even though highly improbable and logistically impossible, this is one of those books that grips you from the beginning and doesn't let go, with tension escalating with each page turned. Jack Jordan’s best novel to date for me and I’d happily recommend it to thriller readers. #DoNoHarm - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
“Jack's Back”

by Bookseller Jon
In our Colchester branch, Jack is a continual bestseller, having become something of a local celebrity. Both of his previous paperbacks, Before Her Eyes and Night by Night, have been overwhelmingly popular with our customers. I have been fortunate enough not only to read Do No Harm in its entirety prior to publication, but to also proofread it. From general outline, to the first few chapters, to the finished article, I was able to read it quite literally from start to finish. As such, I've received a kind acknowledgement at the back of the book: I am the "Bitch with the Pitch". There's really little need to tell you how good this book is, for the previous reviews and ratings speak for themselves; let's be honest, it's basically a five star average. Am I biased? Of course I am! But it doesn't mean I don't know a great thriller when I read one, and this is set to be the thriller of 2022. Sorry, THE thriller of 2022, just for added emphasis. So if you haven't ordered yourself a copy yet, why not? (And if you've not read any of his other books yet, why not? See my handy recommendations...) Just make sure you try to get a Waterstones exclusive edition, as the sprayed edges look fabulous!
