“A better written version of The Hunger Games”
(Paperback)
I am actually so in love with this book. I've read it twice. I was literally that hooked on it that the first day I brought it was the first day that I finished reading it. It's not a huge book, but it's average size for a debut in a series. Regardless, everythings written in so much detail and so much depth that it's just brilliant. The book is literally exactly like the Hunger Games, but better written. Don't get me wrong Suzanne Collins did brilliantly with the trilogy, but she missed stuff. A lot of detail, and I couldn't really get into it most of the time. However, Roth does everything that Collins doesn't in this novel. The way the words just flow together, it's so smooth. It's that good that you start to think how Tris thinks, and percieve things the way she does too. There was a lot of depth in the sense that I got a feel of the world that they lived in, and their way of life and how daunting everything must be - yet at the same time it was never too much detail. It was just right.
Also, it's not very common that dystopian fiction has romance - and I think for me that's why I've never really been able to connect to other books as well as this one. Hunger Games, there's a friend-kind-of-love, the love where you're so scared that you're going to lose someone that you start to feel for them, though at the same time Catniss knew that she didn't love them the way they loved her. It was put together so oddly, at times it annoyed me. However in this book, Tris starts to fall for her initiation leader - of sorts - who both scares her and thrills her at the same time. When she first started talking about him in the story it was like she didn't really understand boys. She'd never felt any kind of 'want' before, but then soon when her and the other beginners were on the train and she couldn't stop looking at him. It was like. Yeah, there's going to be mutual feelings pretty soon. I swear to god, it was written so good that I literally have a crush on him myself. Despite what I say about the romance however it doesn't dominate the story, it's always there and it's always in the background but the story doesn't depend on it like some books do. The plot of the story went together really well, though I thought that towards the end everything was a little rushed. I didn't have long to understand 'what was really CHANGING' - since the blurb on the back of the book said about how the world is changing blah blah, it just didn't seem to elaborate enough in the story itself. Besides this small minor thing though I thought it was a brilliant book, I couldn't put it down!
“Awesome! a must read!”

“Wow!”

I haven't got a bad word to say about this book! I found it after reading the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collin, and after reading the description, I thought it looked pretty similar, and in some ways the plot is slightly similar... the idea of division of humanity. I absolutely loved the Hunger Games, and this is now on par! I couldn't put the book down, the stroyline is so gripping, and you find it difficult to stop reading, as the chapters flow so well. The characters seem so real, you can't help but be drawn in by them. I would definiteley recommend this to a friend, I am 17, but my sister is 13 and is currently reading it with the same amount of enjoyment! I think it is brilliant for all ages!
“Unable to put down!”
(Paperback)
I don't think the synopsis does this book much credit. Yes the main character has to make choices, but it is the consequences of those choices that makes this book such a fantastic read! For Tris, every day is a new adventure and she strives to survive in a world that seems to be falling apart around her. Roth certainly knew what she was doing when she wrote this book. It was such a brilliant read that I had to pre-order the second book: Insurgent; which has also proved to be an equally addictive book now I'm reading it. As for Divergent, I am tempted to re-read it!
Divergent is one of the few books that can put together emotional romance and fast-paced action and come out with a book that leaves you with such a strong relationship with the main character that you can't help but feel like you know her (yes I know she's not real :( ).
I might even go as far as to say that this is better than the Hunger Games series, but I'll have to see what Roth produces as her third installment ;)
“One of my favourite books of recent.”

Book worth reading. Found this at a point in my life when I was rediscovering the reality of my world and it helped put things in place.
