I can't express my love for divergent enough.. I got the book shown to me in a Waterstones in Livingston and i wasn't really sure, but the lovely girl who worked in the shop said 'have you read the hunger games?' and of course i had because at that point it was my all-time-favourite-book..hands down. But I did eventually buy Divergent and Insurgent, the sequel, and omg am I glad I did! It is an amaaaaazing book and it's soooo addictive! I don't need to tell you much about it because the website can do that. But I am a fourteen year old girl, who likes the Hunger Games, Uglies and loads of other dystopian books with huge followings and this is one to put on the list too! After finishing the first one i moved straight on to the second one and i got loads of my friends to read it and omg i'm so glad i read it. Sooooo, yeah just buy it and read it!!

Divergent is the first in a trilogy of dystopian YA novels by Veronica Roth. The book is written from Beatrice Prior’s, (Tris), point of view and is wrote in short chapters, which make it easy to read. The story is fast paced and full of action throughout. It contains elements of humour and a forbidden romance, alongside some real brutal scenes, especially during Tris’s initiation into Dauntless and though provoking moments as well. This wasn’t my normal choice of reading material but I took a gamble and chose a genre I hadn’t read before. I found myself hooked from the first page right through to the very last word. The way Veronica clearly describes every scene helps you to keep a clear picture of what is happening throughout the book. The vocabulary and interactions between the main two characters, Tris and Four, Creates an insight in to their lives, as individuals and as a couple, who are clearly in love from the first moment they see each other. Tris can be a little moody at times and doubts herself too much, but this only adds to her good natured, fun, determined and strong personality which we see blossom the further you read in to the book. Four is portrayed as this tough, serious young man, but underneath his exterior there is a man with a good heart. He is carrying secrets about himself and his past around with him everyday which he has to keep well hidden from his Dauntless comrades, proving that not everyone is who they seem on the surface. The ending wasn’t what I expected, thus my need to get the second book, "Insurgent", straight away. I Needed to know what happened next. I surprisingly found myself enjoying Divergent much more than I first thought I would and thus my love of YA novels began. I have since read the other two books in the trilogy and I am glad that I took a risk with this genre. Divergent has was made into a movie back in 2014. If you have seen the film but not read the book then you are missing out on vital aspects of the plot, and characters, that didn’t appear in the film. I enjoyed the film, just not as much as the book.

Thank you Waterstones for sending me Divergent to review! I have to say I was a little unsure about this book as I only had a vague sense of what it was about. Saying that, I was able to read it with an open mind. Right from the first chapter I was hooked! I thought the development of Beatrice's character was built up well throughout the story. The reader is drip fed aspects of her personality and nature throughout, rather than being overloaded with too much at the start. Divergent is very much packed with action and suspense, but also has a strong sense of unexpected romance (I won't give away too much). Although I would say it isn't particularly done in a girlie way. I found the concept of the world Veronica Roth described as fascinating and with a little time, I was able to understand the differences between the different groups of people. The end of the book has definately left it wide open for a follow up and I would love to know what happens next and what path the characters end up down.

Divergent is not a book I would normally buy but i am so glad I did. This book is action packed and the best page turner! It is my joint second book shared with Delirium, second only to the Hunger Games. In many ways it is similar to them but still manages to be unique which I love. This book has everything , love , violence, mystery however it's still suitable for younger readers. You must read this book it has started me reading again after about two months of being a reading slump! So it must be amazing.

If you loved The Hunger Games, well then is a book you should definitely pick up. I know this is a cliché but a definitely couldn't put the book down. What made me love it more was that it was quite easy to read, I don't like books where the narratives are cryptic and confusing. The characters are great, and you tend to get very engrossed in the wee sub-plots. Not giving anything away here, but the ending was a shock and so action-packed, usually books become more 'calm' at the end, but not this one! It is a MUST BUY
