Reviews: Divergent (71)
“I want to marry this book and have it's babies”
(Paperback)
There was a lot of hype about this book. I thought it was mostly because the movie adaptation featured Theo James who is *ahem* attractive. But I implore you to read it, because it is absolutely thrilling and worth all the excitement it caused and more. Tris is divergent, meaning that she does not fall within the five parameters of her severed society and as thus, is considered a threat to the system. You read that and think *whut* but the way Roth writes is amazing! To be able to create such a dystopian world and make it utterly believable is a true gift so you are all duty-bound to read this book!
“Couldn't put it down”
(Paperback)
At first I was a bit reluctant to read this as I thought it was a replica of The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I am so glad I gave in and read it as it is one of the best I have read. You can relate to the main character Tris ever so much, and feel all the motions that she does. Veronica conveys the romance in the book amazingly and I cannot wait for the film to be released in cinemas this Spring! A must read, couldn't put it down and I have fallen in love with the dystopia genre!
“Truly amazing”
(Paperback)
This book was such a page turner, I often found it hard to put down. The books has a very interesting story line, and the concept of it was intriguing! I personally love dystopian themed novels, so this book was definitely my 'cup of tea'. I have read the first and second book in the series and I have to say, the series just gets better and better as I read the entire book of Insurgent in just one day. I can't wait for the third book to be out so I can follow on Tris' story!
“Captivating”
(Paperback)
I absolutely love this book! I read it in a couple of days then when on to buy the rest of the trilogy and I couldn't put them down either. It's exciting and unique and I would definitely recommend it to any young people
“A gripping story!”
(Paperback)
I was asked to review this book by Waterstones. It is primarily a gripping futuristic story where the main character is a girl named Beatrice who at the tneder age of sixteen has to make a decision which will affect the rest of her future, She can opt to become an initiate in one of four groups, I do not want to tell you anymore as I fear that I will spoil the story.
It seems to be loosely connected to George Orwell's book Ninety Eight Four with factions that are aware of your every move, it is well done and keeps you guessing until the very last page as to what wil happen, will Beatrice become who she really wants to be.
What people are most afraid of becoming in this new world is that of a Divergent as their life will change, and tthey will not any longer be part of the four factions, and will be seen as being different from the rest of the groups.
Beatrice is a likeable character but does undergo some changes wtihin her chosen faction, and meets up and falls in love with one of her instructors, at the same time the story is full of morals, about kindness, forgiveness, judgement etc, it has a slightly preachy feel about it in some places, but overall it is a good book for teenagers to read with the age group of 13+ being recommended.
I will certainly be looking out for more books by this author and look forward to reading more more by this author, a stunning debut novel that I really enjoyed reading!
