“Another great read”
(Paperback)
by Trevene Highfield
Another brilliant book from the Kate & Tristan private investigator stories. Paced just at the right speed to keep you turning the pages with a few twists and turns thrown in to keep you guessing. Kate finds herself in hospital after nearly drowning in a riptide and, talking to Jean in the next bed finds herself taking on a new case. Jean's grandson disappeared years previously on a camping trip and although Jean had him legally declared dead, she actually believes he is still alive. Her confidence shaken, Kate relies on Tristan to lead the investigation on what happened during that fateful night.
“Quite good detective thriller set in Dorset”

Kate Marshall is a Private Investigator and, along with her partner, Tristan, gets involved in a cold case involving the disappearance of a small boy. As the investigation develops, complications ensue including a murder. There are a few characters, reasonably well-developed and the plot moves along at a steady pace. I found the dialogues a bit uninteresting compared to the rest of the writing. generally it's quite good, a straightforward detective story. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily
“A Good Series”
(Hardback)
by Alyson Hilbourne
This is the second Kate Marshall book I have read from Robert Bryndza and again it is a face paced, twisty, well written crime novel. Private Detective Kate and her assistant Tristan are asked to help discover what happened to a child who disappeared on Dartmoor some eleven years ago. It is an odd request made by an old lady when Kate is in hospital recovering from a near drowning after she was caught in a riptide. At first it looks like a simple case of a child wandering off in the night and falling into a a swollen river - this is at least what the police decided was the most likely outcome, but dogged detective work by Kate and Tristan uncover other leads. By the time the ending came I have to say I had guessed the outcome but the book was a delight to read and it was an interesting and well through out plot. The characters are well rounded — Kate with her history of alcoholism and being estranged from her son, Tristan with his sister bossing him around. Even the minor characters are good too. I particularly liked Maureen who ran the writer's group, but couldn't write and who dressed in a suit with anchor decorations to go on a cruise. The setting of child's disappearance near Devil's Way on Dartmoor is nicely menacing with the gorge and the whirlpool well described and the tor and creepy pagan tree adding to the atmosphere. The reader can almost feel the drop in temperature as Kate and Tristan walk out of the warm sunny day and follow the water towards the ground through mossy, ferny walls of granite. A great read. I hope to read more in this series.
“Private Investigator Series”
(Hardback)
by Louise Wilson
Kate Marshall #4 When Private Investigator Kate Marshall is rushed to hospital after being pulled into a riptide current in the sea, the near-death experience leaves her shaken. During her recovery, she defends Jean, and elderly lady on the same ward, Jean tells the harrowing story of her three-year-old grandson, Charlie, who went missing eleven years ago during a camping trip to Dartmoor. By the time Kete is well enough to go home, she's agreed to take on the case, but when Kate and her trusty sidekick Tristan start to look into the events of that fateful night, they discover that Jean has a darker past that could have put Charlie in jeopardy. This time Kate is investigating the cold case of a child who went missing eleven years ago on Dartmoor. Kate and her assistant, Tristan, plunge themselves into the investigation. Kate and Tristan work well together. There are quite a few characters in this book to try and remember. I was quickly pulled into this story. It's also a quick and easy book to read. I did guess correctly where this story was heading but that didn't spoil my enjoyment of the book. This book can be read as a standalone, but I do recommend that you read them in the order they were written in, you won't be disappointed. I would like to thank #Netgalley ##RavenStreetPublishing and the author #RobertBryndza for my ARC of #DevilsWay in exchange for an honest review.
“Missing child mystery”
(Hardback)
by Aidan Dunn
Three year old Charlie disappeared during a camping trip on Dartmoor 11 years ago. Whilst recovering in hospital from nearly drowning PI Kate meets Charlie's grandmother, who asks her to try and find him. Kate knows its a long shot she'll find anything at this time but it grips her imagination and she takes it on. There seems to be a link to an historic murder but how it is connected is obscure. Its a complex but believable plot and will keep you turning the pages.
