I am a Tempe fan, so I look forward to each installment. However, being an avid reader, I was shocked by Tempe and her decisions in Devil Bones BUT came to respect her more knowing that by the final chapter she is still a very flawed but worthy heroine. I would urge anyone new to this running series to start before Devil Bones as you get a better view of Tempe and her life.

A chilling and gory murder investigation, with a likeable if flawed forensic anthropologist as the main character - Tempe Brennan's voice with her amusing observations keeps the tone light even when the plot is dark and the balance works well. This is the first Kathy Reichs book I've read - and I enjoyed it so much I've already got my next one lined up!

Another enjoyable read back with Team Tempe in Charlotte. As always, the plot is fast paced and interesting. I was worried when I first discovered the subject was very grisly involving animals but it is very sensitivity handled by Kathy. I love the characters woven into the story including the Bird Cat! Definitely a page turner that will have you hooked from the start.

In this book, alongside the intricacies of Tempe's day job of not only identifying people from the bare bones and how they came to die, she also delves into the world of voodoo and devil worship. This is yet another fantastically gripping mystery novel. Even if all the books follow the same plot lines, with Tempe finding herself in mortal danger, only to be saved in the nick of time. Oh, and Tempe solving murders using clues that the police have somehow missed. My only frustration is that there isn’t enough details including about the on off friendship/relationship with detective Ryan.

Good but not her best.......
