Deliberate Harm by Catherine Yaffe was the sixth book in the Ziggy Thomas series, and a psychological thriller that could also be read as a standalone novel. The story began with the crime itself, immediately setting a tone of tension and emotional intensity from the very start. Although it worked well as a standalone, I always enjoy returning to an established series, as it allows for deeper character development over time. It was good to see DI Ziggy Thomas again; I found his calm, steady demeanour reassuring, and I appreciated how he remained direct and focused throughout the investigation. I wouldn’t have described the pacing as fast, but it was certainly a page-turner. I didn’t want to put it down and ended up reading it in just two sittings. It was a story that steadily built in intensity as I moved through the pages. As always, the dialogue felt natural and realistic, which added a strong sense of authenticity. I felt as though I was standing alongside the characters as the investigation unfolded. Overall, I really enjoyed Deliberate Harm. I found it to be a well-crafted, steadily building thriller with believable characters and a strong sense of atmosphere. While it wasn’t fast paced, I felt the tension grew effectively throughout, and I will definitely continue with the series.
