Yet another book has risen to the top of my tbr mountain, & this one is by an author I’m very familiar with. Death’s Saviour is the seventh book in the DS Tomek Bowen series & what a pleasure it was to meet him once more. It cannot be read as a standalone as far too much has gone on in the previous books to read this one as a cold start.Tomek & his thirteen-year-old daughter, Kasia, have been muddling through & appear to be winning when her new best friend, Yasmin, introduces her to the enigmatic Zeus. Kasia is changing, not necessarily for the better, & it’s not the normal teenage angst. She becomes embroiled with a group of girls who live & breathe everything Zeus; they will do anything for him. Alongside this side of his life, Tomek & the team investigate the brutal murder of a local radio presenter who at first glance had no enemies. Of course, the two threads collide but why?Very different in feel to the other books in the series, but in some ways necessary as we see the vulnerability & hidden naivety of Kasia, for all her bravado. I didn’t like the use of nicknames for the girls, it seemed forced, I know why they were used but they jarred. The story itself was as fast paced as ever, & I do love Tomek for all his faults. An intriguing ending & I look forward to book 8 (not sure when I’ll get to it though!).
