Reviews: Date with Evil (7)
“Who stole the washing and where is Stuart?”
(Paperback)
My first Dales Detective series novel and will read more.
Bruncliffe is uneasy as strange things start happening. Stuart has disappeared and also washing off the line. Other more dangerous things are also happening.
Great characters and fast paced novel. A great adventure so happy reading.
“I loved this book!”
(Paperback)
I received an email from the publisher saying they thought I would love this book and having read the synopsis I tended to agree with them and neither of us were wrong!
I was concerned that this was the 8th book in a series I'd not heard of. Although there were obvious times when there were things I should have known, the story flowed nicely around those parts leading me to decide that as much as I've enjoyed this book, I now need to find copies of the other seven too!
This has quite a fast paced story with lovely characters and settings that were easy to view in my minds eye as I read.
The author has managed to juggle many threads, only pulling on each one at the right time so when it all unravelled it was an amazing ending to read!
“Another triumph...”
(Paperback)
I've read all the books in this great series.
I've thoroughly enjoyed everyone. Both for the wonderful setting in Yorkshire and for Julia Chapman's rich, interesting, diverse colourful characters.
I have pictured Samson looking like Aidan Turner as Ross Poldark....be still my beating heart!
I heartily recommend these books. You are in for a 'reet' treat☺
“Date with Delight!”
(Paperback)
Date With Evil is by far and away Julia Chapman's best book in her Dales series as far as I am concerned. I've read and enjoyed all the previous titles but found some of the delaying tactics a little wearying. But here there's pace and action, and plot strands coming together. Finally all the loose ends from the previous seven books are tied up. It's full of life and bounce and characters coming into their own. Gone is the irritating stand-off between Samson and Delilah. Banished, too, is the over-dependence on lack of communication as a plot device. More like this please.
“Thriller”

What a cute map at the start of this book. My first book in the Dales Detective series, but the vivid characters and intriguing plot will have me reading the others.
A lot was going on, but how it all came together as the plot progressed was fantastic; it also addressed current issues such as modern slavery in rural regions and human trafficking. Along with the severe challenges, the significant characters displayed laughter and affection.
Thank you, Pan MacMillan and NetGalley, for giving me access to this tiny gem of a series; I much enjoyed it.
