Reviews: Daggermouth (30)
“Amazing”
(Hardback)
First of all thank you so much to Pan MacMillan and NetGalley for allowing me to read this incredible arc.
Daggermouth is truly something amazing. This is dystopian at its roughest and purest. This is dystopian writing at its best. It walks a fine line and makes you question if this is nonfiction as it brings up current dystopia that some are already living in today including systematic oppression and state sanctioned violence against certain people.
The amount of pure adrenaline I had reading this is second to none. Don’t get me started on the ending! I can only hope that time flies just so I can read the second book quicker after my jaw hit the floor.
Daggermouth is dark, political and uncomfortable in the best ways a dystopian should be. It leaves you with questions. It leaves you angry not only at things that are happening within the book but at current events of our day, as it should. It critiques facism, capitalism, state violence and patriarchy. It also has a brilliant true enemies to lovers story that perfectly melds within the story. It is emotionally devastating in the absolute best way. The characters are strong and all so richly and beautifully developed. It is truly the dystopian of the year. Absolutely phenomenal.

“Unforgettable”
(Hardback)
I didnt just read Daggermouth, I devoured it.
Dagger Mouth isn’t just fantasy, it’s a blade aimed straight at the world we’re living in.
Yes, the writing is stunning. Yes, the world-building is immersive. But what stayed with me is how frighteningly relevant it feels in today’s political climate. The way power is handled, the way voices are manipulated, the tension simmering under everything, it mirrors reality in a way that feels deliberate and brave.
This is the kind of book that makes you think. And right now, that feels vital.
“dark, messy, politically charged, emotionally aggressive”
(Paperback)
We’ve got a society that’s morally bankrupt, class divided and about as pleasant as a tax audit with extra screaming.. especially for women who are living under a system that treats them like property, problems or decorative background noise depending on the day. It’s institutionalized misogyny in full HD. Nothing subtle, nothing coy. Just a big neon sign that says “yes, we did in fact learn nothing from history”
It’s infuriating in a way that feels intentional. The women in this story don’t get the luxury of existing peacefully, they’re constantly calculating, surviving, pushing back or refusing to be reduced to whatever box the system has assigned them this week. It’s empowering sure, but also the kind of “empowering” that comes with a side of rage and a mild urge to throw things
The writing is absolutely unhinged in the best way. Bombastic, layered and clearly allergic to boring. It keeps stacking plot on top of betrayal on top of “oh so THAT’S what’s happening” until you’re basically just along for the ride, slightly unwell and pretending you’re still in control of your emotions (you’re not)
Now the characters: because of course there are a lot of feelings here. Shade is chaos in human form fully committed to violence and main character energy. Callum is the “I have trauma and secrets and unfortunately you’re going to care” package deal. Lila is a strategic mastermind playing 5D chess while everyone else is arguing over the rules of checkers
Greyson: the heir and executioner because we needed the job title to match the brooding. Stoic, emotionally constipated and carrying secrets like he’s being paid per mystery. His dynamic with Shade is one of the few things keeping the system from collapsing under the weight of its own angst. The slow burn between them is mercifully free of insta lust nonsense. Instead it’s tension, mistrust and the slow realization that hating someone doesn’t stop you from thinking about them at 3 a.m. which is deeply inconvenient for everyone involved.
And yes, it’s enemies-to-lovers but not the cute “we argued once in a hallway” kind. This is “we have actively tried to delete each other from existence and somehow still ended up emotionally entangled” energy. Romantic? Questionable. Entertaining? Absolutely
It’s dark, messy, politically charged, emotionally aggressive and fully committed to ruining your peace of mind. It’s the kind of book that doesn’t just want you to read it.. it wants to rearrange your nervous system and leave you staring at the wall thinking “why am I like this?” And then of course it ends on a cliffhanger! Whatdoyoumean? This whole time??
“Absolute Dystopian Perfection”
(Paperback)
5⭐️ is not enough for this book. I’ve just read absolute dystopian perfection. This is probably one of the easiest reviews I’ve ever had to write. Everything in this book worked for me and H.M Wolfe had me LITERALLY eating out of her hand with every page I turned and truly TRULY deserves every inch of success she is receiving from this release and more. ?️TRUE enemies to lovers?Dark Dystopian societal masterpiece?️ Badass FMC who ABSOLUTELY holds her own ?Forced political marriage?️ALL the female RAGE?Corrupt government ensuring only the elite thrive?️ Multiple POV’s?Why Choose for the reader ? (I was OBSESSED with EVERYONE)This book had A LOT of hype to live up to when I started reading it - and it absolutely lives up to every inch and beyond. I was completely invested in every sentence of this chaotic wild ride and the side characters all hold up to the same standard as the main ones. I loved the multiple POV’s because as a reader you watched everything unfold from everyone’s perspective. Now onto THAT ending. I didn’t know what to do with myself and wanted to immediately grab book 2. H.M’s entire world, plot lines and characters are taking up SO much space in my brain with multiple theories and just plain obsession that will have to tide me over until Python is released. See this review as my formal application to be a professional hype girl and talk about all things heart, daggermouth, python and beyond.
“Loved!”
(Hardback)
I was completely engrossed in this world and in love with all the characters!
Shadera & Greyson. I loved everything about both of them and I cannot wait to see where they go from here in book two.
I loved that the characters were aged up! They have all been through so much and I cried.
Jameson is such a sweet heart. I want him to get everything he wants in life. Callum & Lira also deserve so much more!
The world is so immersive and I cannot wait to see what happens next.
