Reviews: Cricketers Whose Who 2018 (1)
“Could Do Better”
(Paperback)
I've really given up hope in this book series. They are making changes. I get that books evolve over time, but this series is evolving in a direction I don't like, and I'm not sure I'll continue to buy it in the future.
This book used to focus on a questionnaire that was sent out to all professional cricketers based in England. The responses were then laid out alphabetically, and you got to learn something about the cricketer through the questions, and how he chose to answer them.
Maybe it's got something to do with data privacy, but they've been messing with the structure for a number of years, and I'm not sure they've got the structure right in this book.
Instead of it being straight up alphabetical (which is half the fun I think, you can go from Kentish to Lancastrian players easily that way), it's listed by team. Again, I see why they did it, but it sort of sucks the fun out of finding out about players. I really don't want to be lead by the nose.
The other thing is, the questionnaire is a little silly. Instead of being about facts, facts, and insights, it's about goofy stuff I don't care about (it's shorter too). Again, this is fine, but I care less about the current questionnaire.
So, all in all, it's fine, I'm just not sure it's for me any more.
