I loved this book. This book is very well written and covers how non conventional thinking, upbringing and outlooks work to improve intelligence work. The book looks at why and how different viewpoints and skillsets are valued within the intelligence field. It is not a potted history of cryptoanalysis, although key influencers and trends are examined. Rather, the book looks at why exactly problem solving can be made easier by different approaches. There is lots of reference to modern management approaches and recent understanding of psychological differences, but the book deals with all of this easily. The chapters on thinking like an enemy was fascinating as it got into the mindsets of enemies and how to outthink these people. The book put a different spin on knowledge management and what exactly this is and how it should work, and the part about pattern recognition and why some people are more adept at this than others was likewise fascinating. There is quite a bit of psychology in this book but it is never overly complex and always pitched at just the right level to enhance or explain a point. This makes the book flow perfectly and keep you immersed right to the end. I think that anyone with an interest in intelligence work, organisational psychology, logic and creativity will really enjoy this superb book.
