“Excellent”

An engaging story around the neighbours in a small suburban community faced with a proposed planning application that will change their lives. They are forced to join together, to speak and listen to their neighbours, with a common goal uniting them. Not everyone is as they seem, with secret pasts and unusual occupations. Friendships evolve and strong relationships are forged. Excellently written with delightful humour.

“A fantastic read”

This is a fantastic read! I wasn’t sure what to expect as a first novel from a comedian, but it’s a tale of neighbours with verysharp observations and some unexpected twists at the end. Drawn together to oppose the council plan to change their local park into a charging site for electric cars, this disparate group of people are full of surprises. I felt empathy for several characters, they are sometimes hilarious and I recognise traites of myself in them too. I definitely recommend this book, and I hope Tom Allen is planning to write some more.

Not my usually read (addicted to crime thriller) but absolutely loved this and found it hard to put down. Focuses a couple who move to a suburban neighbourhood from London and worry that it is going to be too boring for them. However, what they don’t know is every household has a secret and things don’t seem what they do from the outside. What brings them together are plans to redevelop the park opposite their houses into an eco-charging site, and all of them campaigning against them. As I said, I really loved this book and will be reading more of Tom Allen’s novels in the future. 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thank you to NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton for the ARC copy of this novel.

“Just read it”

Brilliant . Loved it . A story of what goes on behind closed doors in a street that looks over a park. You really don’t know what your neighbours are like . Some laugh out moments . I can’t say much or I will spoil it. Just read it. You will think of your neighbours in a different way.
“more interesting than you might think”

The residents of suburban Oak Drive are interested in the refurbishing works being carried out on one of the houses, it looks very fancy who could be moving in? The neighbours lives are pretty stressful or humdrum so anything new is of interest. The details of everyday life in the suburbs may be more interesting than you might think.
