S.A. Barnes is a master of space horror! I have read and enjoyed her previous books and so it was with great pleasure (and chills!) that I listened to this book. In this one Halley is on the run, after a big scandal and lucks out on finding a job in a quiet ship filled with cryogenically frozen dead rich people. I mean, what could go wrong there? It is ramped up by Halley having to stand watch and press a button every few hours meaning she is incredibly sleep deprived and so it would be easy to see things that aren't there, right? Add in some creepy holograms that may spout messages that everyone will die and you have all the makings of a wonderful horror story! And I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it, especially out walking at night which really set the mood. The narrator does a great job of bringing the characters and the things that creeping around in space (and old ships full of dead people) to life. This was quite the fun book to listen to and I am looking forward to see more works by this author! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me a chance to listen to this audiobook!

If you are looking for great space horror, I think anything that S.A. Barnes writes fits the bill very nicely! Her books always leave me with a chill up my spine of how horrible things can go up there in the cold reaches of space. Makes me glad to be very firmly on earth! But I really enjoyed traveling (and running for my life) with Halley as she finds her way on to a ship carrying frozen corpses (rich people looking to cheat death) for her new job, while running from the really big scandal she found herself in the middle of. Too bad there is no peace to be found on that ship! Just creepy holograms, threats of death, and something that may or may not be roaming the halls and whose next target might be Halley! Lots of scary creepy bits, missing people (as if Halley doesn't have enough on her plate, she looks into this as well), heartbreak, finding a way out of the mess without dying horribly, and trouble to be found in this story (plus you get a good look at the lengths some people go to avoid dying, especially if they have the money to try anything) and I loved it all! I will happily read anything that this author writes because I know it will be a chilling creepy read. Halley is looking for a place to lay low from a political scandal that has put a target on her back. A job on the 'Elysian Fields', a spaceship where hundreds of bodies lies cryogenically frozen awaiting reanimation should the technology become available, seems like a godsend. Apart from the caretaker, Karl, there's not a soul aboard - well not one who is awake anyway....... This is a very atmospheric (in both senses) read, I could really picture myself as Halley aboard the slowly deteriorating ship. The setting of a floating cryogenic store in space is a really creepy one & it works so well here. The storyline didn't go in quite the way I had imagined before reading it, but it was an interesting take. If you like sci-fi horror, then this author's books are well worth reading.

A terrific sci fi horror that gripped me from the start. The author captures that creepy isolation and has you looking over your shoulder. Good characters and a well thought out plot. I loved this book and will be looking for more from this author. Thanks to Random House UK/ Transworld and Netgalley for this review ARC.
