My favourite book of 2024. Such an eye opening read about the increasingly large role AI is playing in our lives and how it affects us all no matter where we are in the world and what we do for a living. There is a mixture of positive and hopeful examples of AI technology as well as the darker sides that we are seeing on the news. The author shows us these ideas through the stories of real people, making it approachable and relatable. A real eye opener and conversation starter.

When I ordered this, I worried slightly that it might cover a lot of the same ground as "Automating Inequality" by Virginia Eubanks (another excellent book on the subject of computer algorithms and their inappropriate use) but there was no overlap at all. Both books really opened my eyes to how important it is to be aware about the role AI is increasingly playing in our lives and the potential perils therein. I highly recommend both books.

I've read several books on the AI revolution and the often scary implications it has for the world lately and I have to say 'Code Dependent' is easily the best of the bunch; it manages to make some very astute observations about the subject which I couldn't quite believe no one else has so far managed to articulate. A fantastic debut book and I can't wait to see what the author does next.

Code Dependent is a really interesting book that delves into the complexities of the use of AI in our every day lives, all over the world. I found this book very accessible as someone who has limited knowledge of technology and AI. But it will make you think twice about the apps you use daily and the impact AI has on your daily life.
