I enjoyed this short collection of four stories. The book is 124 pages long and the stories make up 95 pages. The rest are blank pages between the stories and an introduction. All four stories are good. All are well written with good characters. The first story is set in the aftermath of the war. The second is decent but it was for me the weakest story here. Not bad just weaker than the others. My favourite is the third story which adds another classic monster to the zombie war mix which was unexpected but very intriguing. The final story is essentially a "cut" section from the world war z book which is good. This is a quick fun read and one I'll read happily again.

I rather enjoyed this little collection of stories, it pulls inspiration from varied quarters both during and after the events of World War Z and I must admit there is a perverse part of me that really really enjoyed The Extinction Parade, which pulled together my two greatest horror loves, vampires and zombies. This story gives a new little twist to the zombie genre by looking at not just how humanity is desimated but also how this has knock on effects for those who feed on us (were they real...obviously). Thoroughly enjoyable collection that fits beautifully with Brooks' other work and passes a few hours in delightful, zombie filled horror.

I'm a huge fan of Max Brooks and so was really excited when I heard that Closure, Limited was coming out. The premise for the book is great - set after the Z War and about companies set up to help deal with the psychological aftermath. I thought that thi gave huge potential for Max Brooks to use the subject as another method of social commentary and observation and in my mind perhaps look at how in modern society we look to overcome grief, or revenge, or how the modern need for'closure' can be exploited for capital gain. However, when the book arrived it was as thin as a pancake and when I looked inside the text was so large and spread out on the page that I realised that there wasn'tgoing to be too much content going on. The entire book consists of a couple of short 'interview' chapters (as in World War Z), alongside a slightly out of character and short-baked fantasy story of vampires dying out because of the zombies taking over. All in all after reading it (which didn't take ver long at all) I was left with the sense that rather than Max Brooks spending the years between World War Z and now coming up with great ideas that this book was probably released because he was running short on cash, looked in his scrap book and found a couple of chapters that his previous editor had cut out of Z and decided to cash in and bung them into a 'new book' which would see him through for another couple of years. A huge disappointment.

Sometimes, writers need to see if there is actually more than one book inside them. Brooks has done two, one of which is a genre-defining work - no small feat. This, however, is not a good addition to the zombie world. It's shorter than the number of pages even suggests, with type kerned out to ridiculous levels and the type itself, needlessly large; chapters and stories are divided by illustrations for yet more padding. You'd think with an RRP of £5.99, the publishers would have thought to employ a proofreader or maybe even an editor, but as is so often the case now, profit comes before any care for quality. The book is riddled with really basic errors, and with the content notably poor (with a single exception, which itself is not strong enough to have made it in to World War Z) this is such a letdown I actually feel ripped off by the publisher AND the author, to the extent I felt like putting the book in the post to them with a big pot of Vaseline and instructions as to where they could file it. I still may.
