Reviews: Chasing the Dead (6)
“A torturous tangled web of mystery and intrigue”
(Paperback)
by Barnsey's Books
Having already read the two most recent books in this fantastic series, namely You Were Gone and No One Home, I decided to go right back to the very beginning with Chasing the Dead. I thought it perhaps wouldn't be as good as the other two, as is sometimes the case with a new series, but not in this instance. It was a superb, thrilling, fast-paced read and one I rate most highly. Mary Towne contacts missing persons investigator David Raker claiming to have seen her dead son Alex. Still grieving the tragic loss of his wife Derryn, Raker reluctantly takes up the case. What he discovers is a torturous tangled web of mystery and intrigue. Definitely not for the squeamish, this book is violent and gritty. How much can one human being endure before he's a broken man? David Raker is pushed to his limit. Author Tim Weaver delivers the real deal with this corker of a crime thriller. I loved the many twists and turns and the uncertainty of where it would lead. Glimpses into the puzzle are given but putting the pieces together in any comprehensible order is no mean feat. The ending was genius. Thinking nothing else could possibly surprise — KERPOW! — the most brilliant curveball smacked me square in the face. It really was an excellent read and this series is fast becoming my new favourite.
“Epitome of an unputdownable page turner!”
(Paperback)

It has been a long time since I have read a book in one sitting - this book was a true page turner from start to finish. Constant twists and turns and when you think you know whodunnit....you dont! I often like to find new authors and am regularly disappointed with what I find - on this occasion - absolutely not. My tip - buy the whole Tim Weaver portfolio - lock yourself away and dive in - you will not be disappointed. I am feeling a bout of flu coming on....may have to skip work for a few days....just to finish what I started!
“Fantastic start to a series”
(Paperback)
by Mrsbookburnee
I have read a few books in the David Raker series, but not in order, so have started the series from scratch. This book was right up my street, creepy, intense, scary, with such intriguing characters, I loved getting to know David from the start. I listened to it via audiobook and think I will be listening to the remaining books this way, fantastic narrating.
“An intriguing start to an excellent series”
(Paperback)
by Sarah C
So great to finally see where the series started, this book gave context for many things I have come across in later books. I particularly enjoyed hearing why Raker began his search for missing people. The case itself was intriguing, with a cleverly layered, dark plot. The characterisation was on point, clearly depicting key players for the reader. The tension builds throughout, with moments of desperation thrown in for good measure. A very enjoyable and satisfying read with scary cult feelings threaded throughout.
“Intense and exciting with an unexpected ending.”
(Paperback)
by Sophie from Waterstones Swindon
Chasing the Dead by Tim Weaver is an excellent start to this series! I can't believe it has taken me this long to start this series! This book is quite an intense thriller. Exciting and intense, although I think a little over the top occasionally. However, this definitely kept my interest throughout and had me guessing absolutely way off course. I can't wait to start the next one. I have a lot of catching up to do!!
