A lovely little book, again wonderfully illustrated and nicely packaged.It's the story of Charlie, a little boy whose mum gets a new job and has to trust him with a key to the house so he can let himself in after school. Of course he loses the key, and then the next one some time later, and then the next one, in increasingly bizarre circumstances which are very funny and rather poignant.What I like about this book is that although it's a fantasy it's got a rather strong moral purpose in a way - towards the end of the story Charlie gets in trouble with his mum because she doesn't believe what happened to the last key but he won't budge from his story because he knows it's the truth and he can't tell a lie. That said, it's not at all preachy, it's really good fun.Good for kids who are starting to read on their own and great as a bed time story, this is somewhere in between Horrid Henry (but with much nicer characters!) and a young Just William.
