Reviews: Cari Mora (15)
“NOT TO BE MISSED!”
(Hardback)
When it was announced back in October that Thomas Harris would be bringing out a new standalone novel in May I knew that I had to read this. I couldn't get enough of his Hannibal series and they have been loved and re-read...could you imagine my face when i got sent a limited edition proof copy of 'Cari Mora'!!!!
Let me tell you Thomas' ability to write is still as phenomenal as it was over ten years ago.
Cari Mora is the main character in Thomas' new novel, she is working as a care taker in a mansion in Miami, beneath the mansion lies millions of dollars worth of gold that ruthless Hans-Peter Schneider has been tracking down, little does he know that Cari is not someone to be messed with...
This read will keep you on the edge of your seating whilst reading...you leave each chapter wanting more and more...you probably won't put this book down until the whole book has been devoured!
“Cari mora.....”
(Hardback)
This is a usual departure to what I usually read but when I saw this first come to light, the name alone intrigued me enough to take the plunge. This book is intricately written with a plot that kept me drawn in. Hans-Peter is a human trafficker, drug lord and all round evil human being. He has ideas for Cari which go beyond the perverse(which personally I found fascinating as I know Thomas Harris is famed for his psychopaths and Hans-peter is exception!!) However, Hans-Peter also has ideas of securing the multi million dollars which are inside a steel box underneath a mansion that Cari happens to be part time housekeeper of. What ensues is a plot dripping with different locations and detailed characters all of whom bring something different and interesting to the table. Cari Mora is a woman not to be messed with, and had a very harsh upbringing and that is why I loved this story. She will not just walk away or turn a blind eye. I can see why there is a lot of hype over this release as I thought the story was a well written gripping one. Maybe I'll try Red Dragon next, as at the end of the book is the first chapter for it.
“Amazing!”
(Hardback)
Thomas Harris' writing is as good as it ever was, I couldn't put this down! Cari is an amazing character-I actually preferred her to Clarice Starling, and Hans Peter Schneider is a villain as disturbing and terrifying as any I've read. I always feel as though reading a Harris book is like watching a film, and this was one filled with twists, villains, heists and killers-I loved it! I don't want to say too much about the plot for fear of spoilers, but this is definitely a must-read.
As soon as I saw that Thomas Harris was writing a new book I've been dying to read it, and when I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy I was ridiculously excited-thank you so much for my copy!
“Terrific terrifying unmissable”
(Hardback)
I received a limited edition copy of this book from the publisher and I was so thrilled I didn’t want to read it and spoil my copy but I am glad I did.
A grown up Home Alone as the title character deals with a ruthless terrifying gang intent on robbing the house she is employed to take care of.
Harris has lost none of his ability to write violent thrillers and once more presents a strong female protagonist to delight us.
Fans of the author won’t be disappointed and he’s lost none of his skill during his hiatus. Fast paced, unexpected twists well plotted, enthralling.
“Another Thomas Harris hit”
(Paperback)
Cari Mora is living in Miami, trying to escape the nightmare of her childhood, spent as a child soldier with the FARC in Colombia. When rival gangs discover the house she’s caretaker of contains a stash of gold bullion, she needs to keep one step ahead to stay safe.
One guarantee of a Thomas Harris novel is someone with a strange death fetish, and Cari Mora is no exception. As soon as Hans-Peter is revealed to have a liquid cremation machine in his home, where he can watch his victims slowly dissolve before flushing them away, you know you’re in for a treat. The interplay between the various factions can get complicated at times, with so many different characters that I struggled to remember who was on who’s side, but overall a very enjoyable, if at times slightly gruesome, story. The ending, while not a total surprise, did keep me guessing as to how it would play out, not predictable as some books can be.
Another masterpiece from a good writer.
