I have at least 10 bread books. This is the best by far. I have just had to order another because I've given my copy away. Well written, easy to follow and excellent range of recipes. Explains how excellent bread making works without being up itself, with great practical instruction. If you are only going to buy one bread book, make it this one.

This is honestly my favourite cookbook, and by far of all I own, it's the one I've cooked the most recipes off. I guess James just has a great writing style, making a novice like me feel confident about bread baking, and trust me, I've tried recipes from all sections of the book, from the most basic to sourdoughs and baguettes, and they're all bloody delicious! It has a great structure to get you started off easy, and then evolve and you bake more and more. And I'm addicted now - I always get bored bored on days when I don't need to bake, and just have to start planning what the next bake will be. Could not recommend this book enough.

This was a birthday present for my sister and I believe she was very happy with it so I think we can recommend it to anyone interested in making their own bread. I'm afraid I haven't actually read it myself so can't express an opinion.
