“Breathe Through Your Nose!”
(Hardback)
by Terence, Bookseller Newry
Reading this book might just change your life- it will certainly change the way you breathe. James Nestor's fascinating and insightful exploration of how we breathe, his 'can do' approach and his frank account of his own health issues that led him to examine his breathing, is not only eye opening, it is lung expanding, as you will find yourself breathing deeper and slower with every chapter you read. But at the heart of this book is a really interesting anthropological study of how we have evolved from our early ancestors and how the development of our brain has been at the expense of our breathing capacity, that we currently breathe worse than any of our predecessors and this has lead to many of our now common health issues. Readers of Yuval Noah Harari's 'Sapiens' will enjoy this book, as will anyone who has read Guilia Enders excellent book 'Gut' (which if you haven't read it, I recommend you do). At this current time the importance of breathing and healthy lungs has never been of more paramount concern to us all and I would strongly recommend everyone to read this book. At the back of the book Nestor includes some very good breathing techniques , but the key message is breathe through your nose, not through your mouth!
“Breathing, we all do it, this is how to do it well and what happens to your body if you don't!”
(Paperback)
by Sam Flatman
I've really enjoyed reading this book, I heard the author on a Radio 4 program and thought this was right up my street. I practice yoga and mindfulness already and I suppose this book provides another piece in the jigsaw of wellfulness. It's written in an easy to read and assimilate journal style, with interesting facts along the way. There are bits that are 'hard to read' but they do contextualise and explain the points being made. If you want to learn how to breath well and live better, this is a great place to start - enjoy!
