Reviews: Braiding Sweetgrass (7)
“Fascinating and beautifully written”
(Paperback)
Fascinating and beautifully written. I found this audiobook after searching for a book that would meet the "nature" square for library bingo. I'm not sure I would have found it otherwise, and I'm so glad I did! It's really fascinating information and provided in accessible language (it doesn't feel like you're reading a textbook). The audiobook is read by the author.
“Life changing and unique”
(Hardback)
This is the nearest you may come to finding a modern day Bible for those ego love nature. A masterpiece.
“Hope for the future”
(Paperback)
This book kept cropping up in my life. People assumed I'd read it because it was 'my sort of thing', so finally I got around to reading it and they were absolutely right. Robin Wall Kimmerer marries science, Native American wisdom, environmental concerns, biology and charm into a book which not only looks at the damage we have done to the land but how we might rebuild a valuable, nurturing relationship with it and how connection to the old ways might just be the best way to ensure a future for us and the planet. Never preachy and always hopeful this is a beautiful gift of a book.
“This is one of the books I think everyone should read at some point in their lifetime”
(Paperback)
If you asked me what book I think everyone should read at some point in their life, it's this one. And also one of the books you should buy for all your friends. Robin Wall-Kimmerer has a gentle yet sure-footed voice, which leads you on a journey of rediscovering your place in and alongside nature. This book made me see my place in the world and how I interact with, respect, appreciate the nature around me completely differently. Braiding Sweetgrass resonates with hope and beauty.
“A Must Read”
(Paperback)
This is truly one of the most influential books I’ve ever read in my life - I’ve now gifted it to four people because I just want everyone to read it! Robin Wall Kimmer is an indigenous woman who shares her wisdom of the earth and our responsibility to the earth in the pages of this book. & it is BEAUTIFUL. Each chapter, she discusses a different plant, animal, or season, and the lessons we can learn from them if we pay attention. Throughout these individual stories, however, a greater story weaves together themes of gratitude, generosity, reciprocity, and teaches how we should interact with the beautiful earth that we live on. She teaches how we can turn our mentality from what can we gain into what can we give? She reminds us how selfless Mother Earth is to us - She gives and gives and we forget that there are actually beautiful things we can be giving back to Her. Kimmer reminds us of that, reminds us of ways we can be giving back, and reminds us that the nature all around us is constantly teaching us - are we listening? Are we learning? How can we better? It truly is one of the most beautiful and important books I have ever read.
