Reviews: Borderlines (1)
“A marvellous book! Should be a compulsory reading!”
(Paperback)
A marvellous book that quite frankly should be a compulsory reading for everyone! Full of entertaining bizarre stories but also quiet and profound wisdom.
In his part history book, part travelogue, part philosophical meditation even? Lewis Baston brings us along on his journey through twenty nine borders from west to east Europe, exploring how the map of our continent has been transformed over the centuries and the human cost of such transformations.
Border zones were places of immense suffering, ethnic cleansing, deportation, but also: quiet heroism, cheerful defiance, peaceful coexistence and cooperation.
Feels very pertinent.
Lewis Baston deployed his vast knowledge of history, unrelenting sense of wonder and curiosity, boyish enthusiasm, compassion and great gift for storytelling to create a book that will capture your heart!
