“Sensational”

I LOVED this book! I was somewhat wary when I began reading-I don't normally have a lot of time for books written by celebrities, but I pushed away this aversion because, let's face it, Krysten Ritter is awesome, and I felt she deserved the benefit of the doubt. And I'm so glad I did, because this book is amazing. It's dark and menacing, and the suspense builds with every page. I stayed up until 3 AM reading, completely hooked. Perfect for fans of Paula Hawkins and Gillian Flynn, this is a smart thriller that deserves a wide audience.
“A pretty good debut!”

This is one of those books that is simple, but has so many twists and turns in it that it’ll feel like you’re reading a more complicated book. It’s a typical successful girl returns home and faces ghosts from her past, but I still thought it was an interesting read, especially for a debut.
“An enjoyable read”

I don't know if Krysten Ritter was drawing on her own personal experiences, but the dread felt by the main character going back to where they had grown up certainly felt familiar and authentic enough for me to automatically buy into the first-person viewpoint from which the story is told - that association I felt towards the main character certainly contributed a lot to my enjoyment of Bonfire. If I want to be critical, it's a slow starter, and there are probably 1-2 too many names to remember for what is not that complex a plot, but it definitely gets better and better the further you get into it although the ending did feel a little abrupt. Besides those minor (to me) issues, I otherwise thoroughly enjoyed the story and will gladly read it again at some point.
“Interesting debut ”

This has a really dark feel to it, questioning memories and trying to escape the past. I quite enjoyed it although I think I may have been expecting more. Definitely worth a read.
“Average, but good nonetheless”

Neither great, nor awful. Ritter’s tale of small town escapee Abby returning to relive and reinvent her youth whilst investigating as to whether there is a case to be brought against an enormous corporation is a quick, dark read with a reasonably predictable plot and a host of shady characters that haven’t outgrown the misbehaviour's of their youth (in some cases these misbehaviours have blossomed into heinous felonies). Abby’s character is the highlight of the novel, her continuous development is surprisingly slick and warrants a respectful nod of approval. All in all, okay, plenty of smoke but no fire.
