“Beautiful”
(Paperback)
by Alexandra Perry
A beautifully written poignant book on a young boys search for answers after he finds his sister has terminal cancer. For a topic that is so close to so many of our hearts, this book is sympathetic and touching, and something that should be read to help you get in tough with your own emotional journey if you have been through or are going through something similar to this. Whilst categorised as 'Teenage' on here, as an adult I found this book moving and incredibly well written. The character development is done in a way that makes you feel as though you know Alex and his story, but is still open enough that you could easily put his emotions and his journey into your own circumstance. Can't recommend it enough.
“Beautifully heartfelt”
(Paperback)
by Katy Amsden
When I read this book, I couldn't put it down. After reading the synopsis, I had a feeling I knew what I was in for and, being someone who gets easily emotional at media (including books), I knew I needed to have some tissues ready. In a way, I set this book a task - if it could make me cry, and I mean REALLY cry, I would give it 5 stars. Well, as you can see it succeeded! This book tells the story of a 14 year old boy, Alex, whose sister unexpectedly receives a cancer diagnosis. It essentially shows how he and his family get by in that situation, and how they and the people around them deal with the other problems in their lives at the same time. It's a moving, at times heartwarming, at times quite funny, story that never seems unrealistic or poorly written and I enjoyed it immensely. (Special shoutout to Miriam as just the best character ever). I honestly can't wait to see what Georgia Springate writes next!
