I read the original platform 13 when I read that JK Rowling based her platform 9 and 3/4 On Ibbotson's book. It was exciting and very magical. This sequel has not disappointeddisappointedq. Sibeal Pounder's writing fits perfectly and the book continues Ibbotson's original novel. It is really fun and really magical. Great for all kids and adults alike. Ibbotson’s book is full of wonderful wit and wonder, and has become a much-loved favourite, and a go-to recommend for booksellers. To find out that a sequel to the book was going to be published was very exciting. When I found out it was to be written by Sibeal Pounder I was estatic! Sibeal Pounder’s writing is also full to bursting with fun - and never fails to delight. ‘Beyond Platform 13’ is a magical, hilarious and meaningful adventure that brings Ibbotson’s creation to life once more. In this sequel, we travel back to Platform 13, and in a case of mistaken identity, we join Lina in her quest to save The Island of Mist from the power-crazy harpies! Sibeal Pounder fills the story with so much humour and madness. The novel also retains the original book’s deeper meanings. It has a lovely message about showing kindness. And it has a bit to say about not judging those who are different - and that there is a place in the world for everyone. More than anything, ‘Beyond Platform 13’ is written to be entertaining - it’s fast-moving plot helps with this tremendously. So, if you’re looking for some childhood nostalgia and fancy returning to Platform 13 then you will not be disappointed. And if you are looking for something for an 8+ year old to read and really laugh at - then pick this up - they will adore it!
