“An inimitable national treasure”
(Hardback)
by Huttson Lo
This has everything: World War 2 drama, Robin Hood heists, pensioner sleuthing, Mediterranean holiday, rural village shenanigans, a lost treasure! Take a breath and let’s begin: from Wray’s previous book The Excitements, Jinx gets her own story—or even stories. Her early childhood interned in a Singapore prisoner of war camp, her family’s displacement to England, as a teen coming under the wings of the clever Williamson sisters from the previous book, Jinx’s own life as a trickster, her later anonymous life in a village of gossips and nimbys, a coach trip to Florence with her neighbours: Jinx’s life is nothing if not eventful. Told from Jinx’s inimitable perspective, she’s a national treasure whose secrets are so much better than anyone else’s, who’s lived a life and isn’t afraid to wield it, and still has things to do. I’d suggest getting out of her way and just enjoying the ride.
