Reviews: Azul (187)
“Really enjoyed it”
(Game)
We really enjoyed this game, and I can see it becoming a regular at our games nights now we have the hand of it. Had to knock a star off, as the rules threw us a bit at first. One to play with the older kids in your family.
“Azul - family game”
(Game)
Our family played this game as a way to spend some screen-free time together.
We really enjoyed it. We did a dummy run game first to get used to the rules and how play unfolds.
Our son has asked to play it a few times since.
“What a game!”
(Game)
This game is quite difficult to master and I am not 100% convinced we have done it correctly, but what a great game for the family to sit together and try to understand!! We have played it a few times now and will continue to try to get to grips with it even more. This is not a game for quick pick up, but give it a try, it is worth it
“Very unique and engaging!”
(Game)
Azul is a wonderfully intricate boardgame that requires tactical thinking along with creativity. Both myself and my husband found this game uniquely engaging, it's very easy to lose many hours playing!
Featuring beautifully decorated tiles, players can decorate their gameboards which resemble the Portuguese palace from which Azul takes its inspiration.
At first, the rules and objective of the game can seem tricky but after a few practice runs the fun and immersion takes hold. Overall, I found this to be a broadly diverse game which can be played during many different occasions.
“HOURS OF FUN, HAD BY ALL!”
(Game)
Azul took some getting used to at first, we had to keep referring to the rules, but once we knew what we were doing, we were well away.
The aim of the game is to gain as many points as you can, by placing different coloured tiles onto your board over a number of rounds.
Basically in turn you select tiles from “the factory” in the middle of the table that has 4 tiles on, you can only take 1 tile type from your selected pot, and place it on your board, any remaining tiles get put in the middle. If you over run on your board, the remaining tiles drop to the floor, which then gives you minus points. Once all the tiles from “the factory” have been used, players move their completed pattern lines onto their wall, each wall only has space for 1 tile. The remaining tiles left over are then put in the lid of the box and not back in the bag. Lines that were not completed, stay on the board to try and complete in the future rounds. “The factory” is then stocked up again with another 4 tiles on each for the next round. All rounds continue until 1 player completes at least 1 horizontal line.
Quality smooth and chunky colourful mosaic tiles. Perfect family game, suitable for 2 - 4 players. Great fun.
4/5 as it took a while for us to get the hang of it. I’m sure we will definitely be playing it over and over again, hours of fun was had by all.
