Reviews: Assembling Ailish (1)
“Irish character reflection”
(Paperback)
by Lesley Lloyd
4⭐️ The author has a unique voice quite poetic with a more literary feel, although I didn’t find it easy listening. Much of the story is told via the guidance of her therapist examining her childhood, difficult teenage experience and secrets carried through adulthood. It’s a slow paced character driven reflection spanning decades. It doesn’t provide anything new but the topics covered are handled well with good character depth. But I didn’t really gel with Ailish, I don’t know why. The author looks at a changing Ireland, but not everyone’s staunch beliefs have accepted the changes. The book ends in a quiet understated manner which is in keeping with the vibe of the rest of the book. The storytelling is good, but it didn’t wow me,I’ve seen some rave reviews, so it’s well worth checking it out as FOMO is real.
