This is the beginning of a series starring DC Will McCready. The first day on the job as DC and things are not going well..... It follows the plot of a young and inexperienced cop on his first day with CID, the story is fast paced and hard hitting, starting with a botched operation and the death of a fellow officer. Entwined is the story of drug and child smuggling, which at first seems to have no connection, but as the story unfolds, all becomes apparent. The book is well written and gripping, although the continuous use of abbreviations ( MIR - murder investigation room, MOP - member of public, FLO, OIC, LIO, TSU, ARV etc) makes it difficult and distracting when you have to stop and think what they all mean. Having been written by a former Police Officer, I would imagine, these are all regularly used within the force, but I found them off-putting. All in all, a good read, and one of hopefully a series, which I will look forward to continuing to read!
