Full of humour, at Arrowood's obvious jealousy at being second-best to the inimitable Holmes, this is never-the-less an enjoyable thriller in it's own right. You'll skip through this book in a couple of days, and end up wishing for part two! (Coming soon, I hope!) I recommend this for all.

Sherlock Holmes is hired by the wealthy, but Arrowood is chosen by the poor. Arrowood and his right-hand man Norman Barnett are hired by Miss Cousture to find her brother who has mysteriously disappeared. She believes that he has crossed a gang-leader and has fled for his life. Arrowood and Barnett soon become embroiled with the criminal underworld, not knowing who to trust and what is true or false. I thought I'd give this book a try since I really like all things Sherlock Holmes. I was a little disappointed with this read as I never quite got into the book. It felt quite disjointed. I was abit confused with the references from another case before this one, but it turns out that this is the first book in the series...On the whole, this book was so-so...the ending was the only thing that really saved it for me as it caught me off guard and was a satisfying ending!
