“Great 2nd book”
(Paperback)
by Georgia Baines
Again, I was engrossed in book 2 of the Renegades series. The whole book was packed with action and more character development on both Adrian and Nova. It was constantly intense on whether either of their secrets would come out and the ending of this book was so chaotic and intense that I couldn't put it down until I had finished it. A great continuation of the series.

Brilliant, this is such an entertaining and well written series. There are so many layers and thought provoking ideas. Love the different abilities and the way they enhance personalities, a lot of thought has gone into making this a rich experience. I love Max and really want to know more about him. A definite recommend for superhero fans everywhere!

I really enjoyed returning to the world of Gatlon City (must stop calling it Galton!), though I thought for several months that this book was called Archnemesis. Yup, definitely wide awake there. The best addition is the introduction of Agent N, which neutralises a prodigy’s powers (not a spoiler, it’s pretty much the story’s catalyst). The ethical questions it throws up helps push the discussion of whether superheroes are a good thing into new territory rather than rehashing the same ideas as RENEGADES. There is more romance in this book, as the cover suggests, and Nova and Adrian worry about what the other thinks. They have some cute scenes together, and it makes Nova’s Renegades/Anarchist conundrum worse. I’m not quite sure what the overall plot was. There were so many subplots, which did weave together well into a coherent narrative. However, at points, it felt like everyone had their own goals loosely tied together and they could have been separate stories. It helped pull the middle section down. The ending was so fast paced that I raced through. Having gone slowly through the start, partly because I was adjusting to being back at uni, the end felt like a whistle-stop tour of the action. I loved it, and the constant suspense of whether Adrian or Nova’s secret identities would be revealed. —–*SPOILERS*—– There don’t seem to be major consequences. Yes, the climax has a consequence (but the final scene shows that the worst doesn’t happen). However, the main characters are still in control of their secrets (by and large), so it feels a little like the book ends in a similar place to where the trilogy started (in some respects). So many incidents that should have revealed Nova’s identity, but luck stopped that from happening. I was really expecting the ending to have her revealed, so that she and Adrian were on separate sides for the final book. I think I would have preferred that too as it would have supercharged the stakes.
