This has a standout original plot that will make you want to do extra research on sleep and resignation syndrome. Overall, the characters are realistic and fleshed out, with flaws and foibles that garner a certain degree of empathy. There was only one person who I wished we’d have been given more information on, but I think that was just me wanting to know details and I’m not sure it would have added anything to the story. Told from different points of view, I was drawn in after the first three pages and stayed up much later than I thought possible in order to finish it! Past and present events are described, with the time clearly demarcated, which helps to build a clear picture of the lives of the individuals concerned at particular points in their lives. Throughout the story, information is regularly revealed to help you build up your knowledge in order to figure out what actually happened that night, while simultaneously throwing something in there to make you second guess yourself! I thoroughly enjoyed this and was completely absorbed in it from start to finish. Wow!!! Anna O is a truly stand out thriller that left me speechless and unable to sleep at night. This is crime writing at it's very best and I am in awe of the sheer brilliance behind this criminal masterpiece and cannot rank it high enough as a thriller not to be missed and truly unique in every way. From the very beginning Anna O pulls you in with a premise that is pure genius and throughout keeps hold of your attention and has you desperate to know what happens next and where this memorizing plot will take you with each sleep depriving revelation. It was the case which shocked the nation, when Anna Ogilvy brutally murdered her two best friends before being found asleep in her blood stained clothes and still holding the murder weapon in her hand. Ever since she has remained in a sleep like state and years later the case has taken on a new level of fascination with true crime fanatics and devotees around the world pondering the truth behind this murderous sleeping beauty. However Dr Benedict Prince believes he can awaken Anna and at last discover the truth surrounding the events of that terrible night and at the same time make a name for himself. But as the treatment begins and Anna begins to show signs of recovery, Ben begins to realize this is a case with many twists and turns and a mystery with a dark and never-ending legacy. It was the case that shocked the nation but what comes next will shake it to the core! Anna O is one of the most successful and entertaining thrillers I have ever read and is a stand out champion in the field of crime. Capturing the readers imagination instantly with a amazing setup and the truly fascinating concept of a sleepwalking murder and it's psychological effects which are all well explained and add an extra depth to a already brilliant scenario. Meanwhile the characters themselves are well written with there own gripping backstories and each adding an extra layer of suspense and intrigue to this mind blowing mystery. Anna O is an exceptional read, which had me completely hooked and desperate to talk to everyone I know about it's sheer brilliance and is a amazing page turner from start to finish and I loved every page of it. This is truly the best of the best with writing that is spot on and intoxicating in every way. Anna O certainly kept me awake at night and believe me when I say you will be too by this superbly breath taking and outstanding thriller!

I listened to the audio version and enjoyed the narration throughout. Well paced and easy to listen to. I was fascinated by the premise of the story; is it possible to commit murder whilst asleep, basically. Sounds preposterous and as I missed the book first time round, the audio title seemed a good way to catch up. Well, this is a real thriller. Right from the outset there’s a sense of displacement and unreality. Anna, is alleged to have killed two of her friends…but was she sleepwalking? She was found, sleeping with the murder weapon and has been asleep ever since so can’t recount events. It sounds so implausible, but I was hooked right from the outset. Under a huge cloak of Government secrecy, Ben, a forensic psychologist specialising in sleep disorders, is brought in at the dead of night to investigate. Anna is in a secret clinic run by a colourful character and Ben is aided by his ex wife, a DCI who is looking at the criminal aspect. There are different timelines and POVs and this is a very clever multi layered thriller that kept me listening through most of the night. It’s very much a slow burn, with back story to the main characters revealed bit by bit as attempts are made to awaken the sleeping beauty. There are twists and I enjoyed the moral dilemma of culpability whilst indisposed along with the actual mystery. Very satisfying all round and a different take on the psychological thriller.. Adored this! Such an interesting premise and it kept me on my toes the entire time. I love that we never get a full answer and it’s left up to the readers interpretation. I know it'll stay with me for a long time!

An intriguing, fascinating novel. I found it thought provoking and chilling at times with a totally unexpected ending. Two people are stabbed to death in a cabin in the Forest and Anna O is found asleep, covered in blood with a knife in her hand. Anna O remains in a deep sleep and unable to be wakened to prove whether she killed them or not, but a psychologist arrives- Dr. Prince who tries different methods to waken her.
