“Agent Zigzag”
(Paperback)
I love stories of the sacrifice and bravery of the Second World War and this is one of the most interesting I’ve read in a long while. It’s right up there with Between Silk & Cyanide! The Nazi double-triple agent who ended up helping the British army stomp all over Hitler.
“A page turning, real life thriller!”
(Paperback)
Agent Zigzag has it all, thrilling heists, explosives, perilous parachute jumps, double agents, prison camps and a spy on every corner, how this is all about one man, a real person, is confounding.Eddie Chapman’s life reads like fiction, and Macintyre tells it like a page turning thriller as Chapman goes from safe cracking, to prison, to working with the Nazis to offering up all of his hard earned secrets to MI5. An astounding, unmissable account of spy-craft from Second World War. I was gripped from start to finish and somehow, regardless of his criminality and his status as a hapless lothario, the portrayal of Chapman as a charismatic rogue dedicated to his country made him incredibly likeable. An engaging, eye opening piece of history, Macintyre transforms Eddie Chapman’s life into an adventure which will never be forgotten. Loved it.
“Agent Zigzag”
(Paperback)
This is my best read of the year. Its hard to believe that Eddie Chapman ever got away with his exploits during the war. if this was a film it would be James Bond and far fetched. Its therefore not surprising that Ian Fleming makes an appearance during the latter stages of this spy thriller.Any person who can convince two governments to pay for the upkeep of two different girlfriends whilst he goes to war on behalf of each opposing side derserves to have his story told and Macintyre has managed this surperbly.
