This story is really gripping. I got through the book really quickly. The cover is a really simple design but very effective. This is completely different from anything I have read before. I did get a bit confused at first with the alternate universes but once I got into it I really liked the style. Adelaide is a really complex character and you gradually get to find out her motivations and why she is the way she is. I liked the way the alternate universes weren't all based on Adelaide's choices, they depended on the actions of other characters too. I would have liked a bit more detail in some places but I guess the point was just to glimpse at the alternative story lines. The ending was really good and leaves us with some hope for Adelaide and Toby. Overall a lovely little read.

It's very sad to see that the children addicted to drugs and alcohol are getting younger and younger as the years go on, and that the pressures of our current world are the main influences, and disgusting of all, is how readily available these products are! Adelaide is experiencing heart break and family trauma because her brother is a recovering and sometimes relapsing addict. And her love life is just all over the place. To top that off she desperately needs to buckle down at school if she wants to get anywhere in life. Her actions are that of a typical teen, trying to understand the conflicting emotions she has running around her body. Her process of thought is a little all over the place but inevitably Adelaide gets there. This story was good, a fast read, and quite relevant in todays society. I would not want to be a teenager again, again.

This is a contemporary fiction. It focuses on Adelaide Buchman who after witnessing her brother's suicide attempt, spent the summer idly working as a dog walker while her mother looked after her brother. However, she broke up with her boyfriend Mikey and unexpectedly, she meets Jack. A handsome poet from a previous party with a dog that sweeps her off her feet. This makes her view things differently and she ends up confronting her brother so deals with their situation head on. When I first read the title, saw the cover and read the synopsis, I thought I would like to read this book because it initially sounded like a book about building oneself and your relationships. Having read it, I wasn't disappointed. I like how the author built the character of Adelaide and her relationship with Jack. I think I would have preferred reading a paperback as I didn't like the font.

Lockhart never fails to take what you think is going to be a simple tale and completely upend it. Again, Again is no different in this respect, providing an inventive and refreshing take on the contrived love story that you may be expecting. This is a quiet story, full of heart and discussion of family and the pain of loss. I think it’s important to clarify that it’s not really a romance, it’s more about the bond between siblings and forgiveness. I sped through it over the course of an evening, finding myself getting wrapped up in the story and losing track of the world around me. So, basically, the perfect escapism for right now. Lockhart’s writing is thoughtful and charming, drawing you in and making you feel welcome. Adelaide is such a likeable, easy to relate to character, who is heartbroken and trying to piece herself back together. The book is really centred around her growth and recovery, with the romantic elements forming a secondary shell. I really liked reading the different outcomes of each event on the page, which didn’t feel repetitive, rather highlighting how one small decision can change everything. I’ve always been fascinated by the ‘butterfly effect’ and Lockhart brings it to fruition in a really clever way for me. Nothing is easily resolved, making it somewhat of a bittersweet but hopeful book that asks ‘What if?’ a thousand times over. This is a quieter, emotional YA contemporary that really demonstrates what an endlessly inventive author Lockhart is.
