An emotive read , I feel physically wrung out after finishing this book . Andrew and Sophie and their daughter Maria and Joe their best friends’s son visit the beach , the weather isn’t the best and neither was their decision to go to the beach . Maria is a headstrong girl and basically has her parents wrapped around her little finger so that is why they are at the beach . Joe’s parents both work hard and feel guilty at leaving him with their best friends , Chris Joe’s dad is a police officer and Linda his mum is a paramedic. Maria and Joe are in the sea but things go drastically wrong and Andrew has to rescue them , but he only manages to bring Maria out of the waves . What happened in the water? How could Joe lose his life? Are Andrew and Sophie neglectful will they be charged with a criminal offence ? The disintegration of Chris and Linda life is a hard read . The writing is excellent it was difficult to finish the book due to the raw emotion but I had to read until the end . Loved the twist at the end . A hard read at times but a satisfying one . An absolutely heart wrenching story and one that I only put down to wipe away the tears. I was totally gripped from the very first page to the last, the pace of this story never lets up and you hurtled along at breakneck speed. If you read no other book this year, please read this one. You will not be disappointed. 5 stars all the way. PS, make sure you have plenty of tissues.

This is a debut novel for G D Wright but after reading this I know there'll be many more. A story of two families pulled apart after the death of a child. Makes you realise how quickly life can change through one decision. So well written and I was in tears several times reading this and I coukd see it and feel emotions fir both families. I was not expecting that ending though and it was brilliant. Can't wait to see what comes next.

After the Storm is an amazing, gripping, terrifyingly good thriller which I devoured. Even though this book published in the summer of 2024 it has been one of me favourite reads of summer 2025. It is tense, dark, addictive, devastating, emotional, and yes I did a shed a tear which is unlike me with books, but it is so well written and brilliantly plotted I was an emotional rollercoaster with it. It is so compelling that I had pure adrenaline whilst reading that I had to race through it even though I didn’t want it to end. This is the perfect read for fans of books by Lisa Jewell and Claire Douglas. I want to say a huge thank you to the publishers for sending me an advanced reading copy. This is a book I won’t forget in a long time. I absolutely loved it!

'After the Storm' is a highly emotional book that deals with the aftermath of the tragic drowning of a six year old. At times it was not an easy read but it was always compelling. Told from multiple POV's the storyline steers us through the following hours, days and weeks and never lets up. My heart went out to both families and also to the police involved. A great debut novel. Thank you to the author, publisher and netgalley for an early read.
