I read an eARC of this book on NetGalley so thank you to the author and the publisher. This is my fourth book from this author and I really like their ideas and writing style. This is a short, fast-paced book which blends modern office work with supernatural horror. We have someone who is lonely, isolated and down on their luck who takes a strange new job because they’re a bit desperate. They turn up at their new office and it’s confusing and there’s barely anyone there. They’re connected to a to do list designed to optimise their productivity and a very overbearing ‘well bot’ there ostensibly for their wellbeing. A strange request from their taciturn manager finds our main character embroiled in something horrific. I’ll say no more on plot to avoid spoilers, but I did really enjoy the rabbit holes this went down and how it blended horror with modern office life. I would have liked this to be longer, it’s a very cool concept and it would have been great to have it built out a little more, plus the ending felt a little abrupt. But I did appreciate what the fast pace brought to the book in terms of how it unmoors the reader and the main character, forcing quick decisions and reactions. Fascinating concept and a fast paced, unnerving horror.
