This is a beautifully told tale of what can only be described as love at first sight and the risks we will take to follow our hearts. The narrative follows three well rounded characters, with each chapter focusing on only one of them giving the reader a personal insight into their tale. I loved the format of the novel and I fell in love with the female lead Felix, a strong, brave woman torn between two very different, worthy men. Set during the Spanish civil war, even touching on the catastrophe of Guernica, this is novel that demands attention and one which you just wont want to leave behind. It has quite rightfully been quoted as being suitable for younger fans of Sebastian Faulks' Charlotte Gray and Ian McEwan's Atonement. This is an ideal read for teens that want something other than vampire or dystopian fiction, it's a carefully crafted historical novel, hurrah!
