A thoroughly enjoyable read. Well documented biography of a 1980's/90's (from my perspective and age!) icon. From a musical and artistic background, or some may say displaced/worldly or well travelled family, the book charts Neneh's roots, travels, traumas, family, and musical successes. I did find myself stopping and listening to various songs mentioned in the book. Some I recognised and some that had passed me by. Parts felt a bit like reliving some of your rebellious teenage years. A journey of history, travel, art and music re/discovery. Not just Neneh's but her entire family. Totally worth a read and would thoroughly recommend to music lovers.

Thank you to the publishers for this review copy. I admit that I was surprised to see it longlisted for the Women's Non Fiction prize 2025 and I didn't have high expectations for it. I was entirely proved wrong - it's a brilliant read which I would be delighted to see shortlisted! Very happy to recommend on to others. I loved the account of her life, her family, the highs and lows. So many schools, home, countries - such a well travelled life. The books she was reading at the time, a brilliant snap shot. Many of course are now modern classics really. A reminder of the music I've previously listened to, I popped some 80's & 90's tracks on while reading. How can anyone forget the AIDS outbreak of the 1980's? We don't but this book was a good reminder because it had slipped to the back, so many lives were lost. So much suffering. Drugs issues too. Fabulous read!
